Youth (청춘)

Youth is not a time of life; it is a state of mind; it is a temper of the will, a quality of the imagination, a vigor of the emotions, a predominance of courage over timidity, of the appetite for adventure over love of ease.

Whether seventy or sixteen, there is in every beings heart the love of wonder, the sweet amazement at the stars and the starlike things and thoughts, the undaunted challenge of events, the unfailing childlike appetite for what next, and the joy and the game of life.

청춘이란 인생의 어느 기간을 말하는 것이 아니라 마음의 상태를 뜻하나니, 강인한 의지, 뛰어난 상상력, 불타는 정열, 겁내지 않는 용맹심, 안이를 뿌리치는 모험심, 이러한 상태를 청춘이라 하는 것이다.

영감이 끊어지고 비탄의 백설이 사람의 마음 속 깊이까지 덮고, 냉소의 얼음이 이를 굳게 닫게 되면, 그 때 비로서 사람은 진정으로 늙게 되며 하느님의 자비를 구할 수밖에 없게 된다.
